The "2005" edition of the best-selling Madden NFL sports game series hits the field with another new season's worth of refinements and additions. Attention has been paid to the defensive game in this version, with enhancements intended to give gamers more options and more control when they're playing from the other side of the football. Many of this year's new features involve the NFL players themselves, however, calling upon gamers to maintain and develop their star athletes. Players are now rewarded for their good performances throughout the season, and individuals can be affected by the ebb and flow of morale.<br><br>Madden 2005 offers "hit stick," control, which allows the right analog stick to be used to perform the kind of huge, momentum-shifting hits that fans will hear way up in the nosebleed section. Risks are involved, however, and players who miss tackles under the hit stick system's less rigid controls have only themselves to blame. Gamers can also involve themselves more deeply in defensive strategy than they could in earlier versions of Madden NFL. The new Defensive Playmaker Control system allows them to modify assignments for any player on the field, to set up blitzes, jams, and individual man-to-man coverage, right up until the moment the ball is snapped.<br><br>Madden fans who are in it for the long haul will also find new Franchise mode features in this year's game. As they progress through the seasons, they'll be able to name their team's captain, claim their top stars as franchise players, and allow other players to take free agent status. A virtual Tony Bruno presents a weekly, in-game radio show that discusses all the major events in the league, and may allude to the personalities behind the players. When a player is unhappy, he won't play his best; the gamer can choose to make adjustments or trade him away. Franchise gamers can also read sports page-style announcements and check their in-game email to keep up on all the latest information.<br><br>Once again, John Madden is joined by Al Michaels to provide color commentary and the play-by-play. Jill Arrington reports from the field. Gamers can even customize the fans in the stands of this year's game, choosing from thousands of possible combinations of clothing, headwear, face paint, and unique, team-specific accouterments. Other convincing new elements include pre-game and post-game shows, featuring confetti and fireworks, and environmental effects, with realistic lighting and weather that can change in the middle of a game. Hundreds of new animations have been added for more realistic player movements, both on the field and on the sidelines.<br><br>The "Collector's Edition" of Madden NFL 2005 includes lots of additional documentary and interactive material, and playable versions of past games in the series. Nostalgic fans can enjoy ports of the Genesis version of John Madden Football '93, and the PlayStation versions of Madden NFL 98 (which used sprites) and Madden NFL 2001 (which featured 3D graphics), each with updated rosters based on the 2003-2004 season. A trivia game and several expository features are also available to collectors, as well as playable re-creations of what John Madden himself has chosen as the most memorable NFL plays from the last 15 years. <br><br>As in earlier versions, network-connected Madden NFL 2005 gamers can log on to EA Sports Online to find a live challenge from a fellow fan.

    -To commemorate a madden 'silver' anniversary, ea sports offered up a 2005 special collector's ed. exclusive to the ps2 console users; it was the complete madden nfl 2005 game version as in the regular release, plus a generous content of bonus features to complement this already polished and artfully & visually improved offering even more so in that it picks up right where the madden 2004 had begun in polishing the graphics and gameplay as well. - -gameplay: 8/10 overall: The only reason I did not match the 9/10 rating carried over from the madden 2004 review is that the gameplay is not quite as tight as the 2003 and 2004 versions, but the difference is only negligible and very hard to detect; it plays very realistically and is a fun game to control; it rewards smart play-calling much ...

    Great PS2 Football Game

    Madden is a great football game for the Playstation 2. There is a lot of action and is a game any football fan can enjoy playing. This version has great animation compared to the Nintendo DS version, which I have also played. The controls are rather easy to figure out especially if you use the tutorials. You can play as any NFL team in any year, so you can not only play with current players, but also old favorite players.

    Madden NFL 2005: Collector's Edition(Playstation 2)

    I bought this game because I am collecting all the Madden games and I needed the collectors edition but not only that, this game features the past Madden's and you can play the demo version of the games and see how far EA Sports has come to perfecting this game. It also includes the "hit stick" which allows the defender to make a punishing hit on the ball carrier. I love playing this game and would recommended it to any football fan.

    Madden NFL 2005 Collector's Edition Here's the deal... Likes: Nice edition to a collection. Better then the standard edition of 2005 Has some nice info on how Madden is made. Clean layout in the menus lead to fun times! :) Hates: OLD, OUTDATED, ETC. Gameplay was not so good back then... A few bugs in gameplay... Overall: Happy with this game and tho it is old still fun to play! I'm a big Madden fan and I collect them so this was a nice to add to my collection.

    Easy to play! Collector's edition! Good graphics! A+

    This is Madden! Enough said....or it should be. The graphics are excellent, as usual! Easy to play! Collector's Edition! If you have this game, I'd advise one to keep it simply because it is a collector's edition and great game. If you don't have this game, get it.
